Fairfield Arts Commission: Spotlight Series - Troy Fine Art Services
Meet Troy Amuso, who owns Troy Fine Art Services and specializes in fine art restoration of oil paintings.
Troy’s path started at fourteen years old, when a family friend introduced him to Dutch conservator Yan Vanderviver in Mount Kisco, NY. Troy shared, “At first, I swept floors and ran errands, yet even those small tasks gave me a glimpse into the care and discipline behind preserving art.” He continued, “By seventeen, I was handling canvases, and one day I was asked to frame a painting. Only afterwards did I learn it was by J.M.W. Turner. That moment set my course.”
Troy wasn’t just inspired by the technical side of conservation, but the responsibility it carries. He stated, “Every decision must respect the artist’s intent and remain reversible, ensuring the work endures for future generations.” He continued, “I was fascinated by how conservation is equal parts science, craft, and storytelling.”
That early spark grew into study at the School of Visual Arts and years of hands-on training in studios across New York, Connecticut, and Los Angeles. Over time, this became not just a career, but his life’s work.
At Troy Fine Art Services, the inspiration remains the same: preserving history through paintings that might otherwise be lost. Each restoration is an opportunity to honor the artist, respect the collector, and safeguard the stories that live within the canvas.
Troy commented, “We’ve been part of the Fairfield community since 2001, and from the beginning, engagement has been at the heart of our work.” He added, “Beyond owning galleries in Fairfield and Southport, and conserving and restoring paintings, we’ve mentored artists through programs such as the Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County and partnered with institutions like the Fairfield University Art Museum.”
Troy’s business partner and wife, Denise, was one of the original volunteers for the first Fairfield Arts Council. They believe in the arts—all arts. For them, “being part of the Fairfield Arts community means belonging to a circle that values creativity, preservation, and connection.” He added, “As an art conservator, my role is to care for the history artists create—ensuring paintings from all periods remain vibrant for future audiences.”
Troy stated, “What makes Fairfield unique is its spirit of community, creativity, and collaboration. It’s not just about exhibitions or sales—it’s about sharing knowledge, supporting one another, and keeping the arts at the center of cultural life.” He continued, “Through conservation, restoration, and speaking engagements, we contribute to that dialogue, helping people see art not only as an object but as a story worth preserving.”
Troy and Denise’s work can be found on their website, which highlights their conservation and restoration services, case studies, and upcoming speaking engagements. They also share updates, project highlights, and community involvement on Instagram. These platforms allow them to connect with the public, collectors, institutions, and the wider arts community.
